Greek Epic: The Latchis Family and the New England Theater Empire They Built, by acclaimed author Gordon Hayward, tells the compelling true story of one immigrant family’s journey from a mountain village in Greece to the center of a small town in Vermont, the successes and sorrows along the way, and the impressive historic building that is their legacy and the cultural hub of a creative, funky Vermont town today. Included in the book are images, stories, and historical information about the family’s theater in Keene. The Latchis Theater opened on Keene’s Main Street in 1923 (presently the sight of Subway sandwich shop).
On Saturday December 3rd at 10:00 am at the Historical Society of Cheshire County author Gordon Hayward , will offer a short presentation about the history of the family and the making of his book. Hayward is a nationally acclaimed garden designer, writer and lecturer, and current president of the nonprofit organization Latchis Arts which oversees the Latchis Memorial Building in Brattleboro.
