Did you know?!  There were approximately 376,000 horses in New Hampshire at the turn of the 20th century.  Horses were used for freight movement, public transportation, emergency services and for personal use.  In the early 1900s, the humane society played an important role in looking out for the care and well being of the region’s work animals.
