SUMMARY:Motorized Zucchini Workshop
DESCRIPTION:With the expertise of MAXT Makerspace\, learn how to design and develop a motorized zucchini made of foam. Participants will be able to enter their motorized zucchinis in a contest at the Historical Society’s International Zucchini Festival on October 3.  Winner gets the coveted Green Ribbon prize!  Thank you to the Kingsbury Fund for sponsoring this event! \nNo prior zucchini racing experience required. \nDate/Time: September 16\, 2026\, 6pm \nThis is an all-ages workshop \nLocation: 349 Main Street\, Keene\, NH (at the Historical Society’s Bruder House).  Free parking is available in museum spaces along Bruder Street. \nRegistration is required:  Click here to purchase your ticket(s) :  $10/person covers the cost of supplies.  HSCC members contact Olivia Mullins at Omullins@hsccnh.org for a discount code to receive $2.00 off.

The Historical Society of Cheshire County is reviving the beloved International Zucchini Festival\, a Keene tradition once famous for its parade\, oddball contests\, and wonderfully irreverent take on the classic county fair. \nWe’re bringing that same spirit back for an afternoon of zucchini-fueled fun\, including: \n\n A community parade through Keene State College\, starting at noon\n The Grate Off Contest and Motorized Zucchini Race\n Zucchini Relay Race\, Toss\, and Shot Put\n An Agricultural Hall filled with zucchini creations\, with categories including Silliest\, Best in Show\, and Best Zucchini Bread\n Free family activities\, including face painting\, ring toss\, and zucchini carving and decorating\n Food and drink vendors\n Zucchini-themed fun happening around town with local organizations\, including the Cheshire Children’s Museum\n Awards at 2:30 pm \n\nAnd yes\, you can enter the contests! Bring your zucchini creations\, your competitive spirit\, or just come see what happens. \nAdmission: $10 adults | $5 kids | $20 family maximum \nAdmission includes festival “gadzukes\,” our very own currency\, redeemable for food and activities throughout the day. Bring a perishable food donation for The Community Kitchen and receive an extra gadzuke! \nA historical note…the first-ever International Zucchini Festival took place in Harrisville in the 1980s and eventually drew national attention for its parade\, games\, contests\, agricultural exhibits\, and general zucchini absurdity.  The Historical Society’s latest exhibit “Zukes No Cukes” shares the story of this event from the 1980s and it is also open on Sat.
