DESCRIPTION:Patriot Colonel Isaac Wyman- The War Years 1775 to 1783 \nTicket required: Historical Society of Cheshire County Events – Upcoming Activities and Tickets | Eventbrite \nIsaac Wyman fought in the French and Indian Wars as a British soldier\, stationed at wooden Fort Massachusetts in present day North Adams\, Massachusetts. He and his family moved to Keene in 1762\, where he was a member of the Keene militia. \nIn April of 1775\, he was asked to lead other local volunteers to support the patriots of Lexington and Concord\, Massachusetts. In saying yes\, he committed himself to 6 months of service which include the Battle of Bunker Hill. Asked again in 1776 to lead a regiment of militia men\, he answered in the affirmative. Brought up on charges at Mount Independence in 1776 he faced a court martial and served another 6 months in service before he retired from the military and came home to Keene. \nIsaac remained active in town affairs as the war eventually was won by the Patriots. Would you have said “Yes” and how did his service affect his family and his life? The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th in Philadelphia\, officially proclaiming America’s freedom from Great Britain. New Hampshire created the first state constitution in U.S. history. General George Washington crossed the Delaware River and captured British and Hessian soldiers at the Battle of Trenton. \nProfessor Gregory Knouff\, Chair of Keene State College’s Department of History\, will present his analysis of these and other events during that momentous year to illuminate the shifting fortunes faced by the nascent United States of America in that pivotal year.

Eleazer Sanger\, brother of journalist Abner Sanger\, Lieutenant Benjamin Hall\, lawyer Elijah Williams and Major Josiah Willard. Why did they support King George and what risks did they take for that support? DESCRIPTION:Patriots and Loyalists: Revolutionary Dissension in a Cheshire County Town\nFree | Registration is required Historical Society of Cheshire County Events – Upcoming Activities and Tickets | Eventbrite \nJoin Senior Historian Alan Rumrill to examine the drama of a small town’s response to the American Revolution. \nOliver Parker was one of the first settlers and the undisputed political leader of Stoddard\, New Hampshire in the mid-1770s. When the Revolutionary War began\, Parker spoke out against the Patriot cause. He quickly lost favor in the town and was branded as a disreputable Loyalist. Was it only Parker’s Loyalist views that damaged his reputation\, or were other factors in play? DESCRIPTION:Patriot Colonel Isaac Wyman- The War Years 1775 to 1783 \nTicket required: Historical Society of Cheshire County Events – 4 Upcoming Activities and Tickets | Eventbrite \nIsaac Wyman fought in the French and Indian Wars as a British soldier\, stationed at wooden Fort Massachusetts in present day North Adams\, Massachusetts. He and his family moved to Keene in 1762\, where he was a member of the Keene militia. \nIn April of 1775\, he was asked to lead other local volunteers to support the patriots of Lexington and Concord\, Massachusetts. In saying yes\, he committed himself to 6 months of service which include the Battle of Bunker Hill. Asked again in 1776 to lead a regiment of militia men\, he answered in the affirmative. Brought up on charges at Mount Independence in 1776 he faced a court martial and served another 6 months in service before he retired from the military and came home to Keene. \nIsaac remained active in town affairs as the war eventually was won by the Patriots. Would you have said “Yes” and how did his service affect his family and his life?
