Kim will present the rich histories of Winchester’s two bridges\, the Ashuelot and the Coombs\, as well as Swanzey’s four covered bridges\, the Thompson\, Slate\, Carlton\, and Sawyer’s Crossing. \nKim Varney Chandler is the author of Covered Bridges of New Hampshire; an engaging and well-illustrated history of the remaining covered bridges in the Granite State. The 288-page\, full color\, softcover features the author’s own current day photography of all sixty-one covered bridges\, paired with historical photos in a then-and-now-theme. Kim partnered with bridgewrights\, timber framers\, bridge engineers\, historical societies\, town offices\, libraries\, state and national organizations\, and community members to compile extensive histories of each bridge. \nKim is a researcher\, amateur genealogist\, photographer\, bird watcher\, and dog lover. She is a two-time graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Kim works as a high school counselor at Fall Mountain Regional High School and commits an inordinate amount of time to volunteer work for a variety of organizations. It will be followed by discussion with concert pianist and Keene local\, Virginia Eskin. \nAmy Cheney was born September 5th\, 1867\, in Henniker\, New Hampshire. She would become one of the most respected and accomplished American composers of her time. As a pianist she made her debut in The Boston Music Hall at the age of 16\, and at 17 she appeared with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Beach later became a national symbol of women’s creative power and was the dean of American women composers. \nAmy Beach continued her connections to New Hampshire. Her family moved to Boston when she was four years old\, but in her later years she spent summers in Hillsborough and at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough where she was an early supporter\, contributing time and money to the Colony in its important early years\, and willing the rights to her compositions to the Colony upon her death. Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made of mochigome\, a short grain japonica glutinous rice which is pounded into a paste and molded into the desired shape. It has a stretchy\, soft\, and chewy texture. He holds a PhD in anthropology from Brown University and has spent the last thirty years studying Native American archaeological sites in New England. In 2010\, he directed the excavations of four 12\,000 year-old Paleoindian dwellings at the Tenant Swamp site in Keene. Goodby is the author of the 2021 book A Deep Presence: 13\,000 Years of Native American History as well as many scholarly articles on paleo-Indians and archaeology. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n For 35 years\, Judy Dow has been a educator/mentor\, braiding into all of her educational work core concepts of the Wabanaki people of New England: Respect\, Reciprocity\, Relationships\, Responsibility\, Reverence. Judy was the recipient of the VT Governor’s Heritage Award for Outstanding Educator in 2004. She has taught students from pre-K to university and worked in community settings\, reservations\, prisons\, and assisted living centers. Her current focus is reclaiming historical Indigenous stories\, and mapping them to provide youth with another perspective of history\, science and math. These tools will assist them in making meaning of their own lives. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lynn Murphy is an Abenaki elder\, wife\, mother\, grandmother\, and a descendant of the Sadoques family of Keene\, NH. She recently retired as a middle school science teacher and now works on an Indigenous humanities summer camp for youth through the Vermont Humanities Council. She is a former trustee of the Mt.
