Appalachian Odyssey by Steve Sherman and Julia Older
Steve Sherman and Julia Older walked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine in 1973, and recounted their experiences along the way with spirit, humor and wit.
In the period 1936-1973, a total of 181 people hiked the 2,119-mile Appalachian Trail. Julia Older was the 19th woman to do so, when she and Steve Sherman hiked it in one outing in 1973. Now, 400-600 men, women and children hike the now 2,174-mile trail end to end. Older’s and Sherman’s odyssey was transformative and added a new dimension to the awakening American conscience for the preservation and moral use of our natural resources. 248 pages
