Discover the steadfast loyal subjects of England living on South Main Street, Keene, surrounding the Wyman Tavern. Coming from different backgrounds were, Dr. Josiah Pomeroy, Major Josiah Willard and Abner Sanger. Why might they have supported the King and not their neighbors? What risks and rewards might they encounter? Meet at the tavern and come inside to the Tap Room to learn more about why these three men might have chosen not to fight against mother England. None of them were tarred and feathered!
Join HSCC interpreter Becky Barton as she tries to present both sides of the American Revolutionary War, Patriot and Loyalist, as experienced by a few Keene men. HSCC interpreter and volunteer Becky Barton moved to the area in 2005 after earning her M.A. in Public History at SUNY Albany. She has been researching and learning about Keene and specifically Isaac Wyman, Sr. since she joined the society in 2013. She is currently finishing up details of her book on Keene’s Isaac Wyman and his family.
