Library & Archives

By visiting the Wright Research Room, visitors can access more than 300,000 items of regional historical interest.

Plan your research visit with these helpful tips.

Personal Belongings

Pencils, laptop computers, digital cameras, and loose papers may be brought into the Wright Reading Room. A cloak room is available for all of your other belongings (coats, purses, brief cases, tote-bags, computer bags, folders, etc.) Paper is provided to researchers using historical manuscripts.

Photocopies and Print-outs

Because of the fragile nature of many materials, books over 100 years old and bound manuscripts may not be photocopied, although they may be photographed. Additional restrictions may apply to some manuscript materials. There is a charge of 25¢ per sheet for photocopies and print-outs.  Historical Society of Cheshire County members receive a discounted rate of 20¢ per copy.

Retrieval of Materials

Most of the Society’s library collection is available in the Wright Reading Room.  Most of the archival materials including manuscripts, business records and historic photographs are stored in closed storage areas and must be requested by asking a staff person. Materials are retrieved continually throughout the day until 4:00 pm. We will make every effort to retrieve your requested materials promptly.

Rights & Reproductions

Historical Society of Cheshire County objects, images, or other materials may not be published without written permission.  View our Digital Reproductions section.
Please note that the Historical Society reserves the right to inspect all research materials and personal articles before patrons leave our building.
