“Hello Mother, Hello Father: Organized Summer Camps in Nelson and Stoddard from the 1890s through the 1970s”

History of summer camps to be discussed at Munsonville chapel

Alan Rumrill, executive director of the Historical Society of Cheshire County, will give a talk titled “Hello Mother, Hello Father: Organized Summer Camps in Nelson and Stoddard from the 1890s through the 1970s” on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at the Chapel by the Lake in Munsonville.

Rumrill will discuss the bygone era of girls, boys and family camps on Nubanusit, Granite and Highland lakes. The audience will be encouraged to share memories of summer camp in the region.

Light refreshments will be served and donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the chapel and the Munsonville Ladies Group, which helps fund field trips for Stoddard and Nelson school children to the historical society, Colony House and Wyman Tavern.

The chapel is at 529 Granite Lake Road (Old Route 9) near the intersection of Murdough Hill Road in Munsonville. Information: 446-7857.
