Visit the Historical Society on October 1st at 10:00 am when Spofford resident Yuko Suzuki Mowatt will demonstrate how to make one of her favorite Japanese sweets, mochi. Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made of mochigome, a short grain japonica glutinous rice which is pounded into a paste and molded into the desired shape. It has a stretchy, soft, and chewy texture. Mochi can be eaten plain or filled with ingredients such as red bean paste, strawberries, mango, ice cream, nuts, and more. Attendees will have a chance to sample this sweet dessert.
